Curt Widhalm, MA, MS, LMFT and Katie Vernoy, MS, LMFT| What Goes in Your Notes? Interstate therapy practice and documentation for clients considering abortion or gender affirming care (1 CE hour)

Interstate and telehealth therapy practices have to navigate a series of patchwork laws and must document their practices in ways that are beneficial to the clients and reflect the work being done in therapy. These laws are especially in the spotlight as several states have laws that affect treatment of transgender youth and many states laws that have been recently triggered by the Supreme Court’s decision that overturned the constitutional right to access to abortion. This workshop explores the best practices for working in cases where these situations arise and the best practices for documentation.

Learning Objectives

After listening to this podcourse, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify two interstate telehealth law differences that would need to be considered when providing treatment to clients.
  2. Differentiate the protections offered between psychotherapy records and psychotherapy notes.
  3. Identify two important components of HIPAA and the 21st Century Cures ACT that provide access to client records.
