Curt Widhalm, MA, MS, LMFT and Katie Vernoy, MS, LMFT |What to Know When Providing Therapy to Elite Athletes (1 CE hour)
The athletic world is a unique and complex environment that affects athletes and their mental health concerns. At higher levels of competition, the unique aspects of this environment require that therapists are well prepared for working with athletes with mental health concerns. This workshop explores the areas that therapists need to explore more deeply before considering this client population as an area of practice competency.
Participants in this course will be able to:
- Describe the impact of developmental issues at the core of effective therapy for athletes
- Assess for the three most common diagnostic issues when working with athletes
- Differentiate between the types of sport an athlete plays and the unique protective and risk factors on the athlete
